News

The Appcelerator/IDC Mobile Developer Report for Q1 2012 was released last week and there are some interesting trends taking place, especially with interest in HTML5 and declining interest in Android.

Tips

Javier Rayón from Criteria Studio spoke to Learning Titanium about his DOMO app that allows you to communicate with hardware appliances in your home.

Mobile Gaming is going to be huge in the near future and you need to get in on the action now. Sharry shares his views on gaming with Titanium on the appcelerator Dev Blog.

Simple shooter game powered by Titanium with QuickTiGame2d: it has only 100 lines of JavaScript code! It is in Japanese, so you may need to hit the translate button to get more details.

This Week in Titanium Mobile Development: 19 Mar 2012

This is all the Titanium Mobile development news I’ve gathered from the Twittersphere and Interwebs for the past week.

News

The coding chick – Frances Advincula – has some insight on the benefits of Titanium for students and beginners.

Tips

This is a neat little tool to convert a Webkit-gradient to a Titanium Mobile Gradient.

David Bankier was inspired by Adobe Shadow to create TiShadow for titanium using node.js and socketIO to create code snippets in a browser and render the code across all iOS and Android devices. You can view how it works in this demo video. He then gave a full post on Forging Titanium Episode 23: TiShadow.

David Bankier also shared TiHighlight for on device coding for appcelerator Titanium. It lets you switch between JavaScript and CoffeeScript, to help you write code on the fly.

The Titanium Ninja Olivier Morandi details how profiling Titanium Apps is possible. Unfortunately, it is only for iOS for the time being, but so, so awesome. I hope to see in this in Titanium core sometime.

Christian Sullivan shared Fuse – Globally Available Objects, Namespaces and Node.js Style EventEmitters for Titanium Mobile. Currently only for iOS.

QuickTiGame2d – A 2D Gaming Module for appcelerator titanium now supports tiled map. The New video by @infosia shows you how it works.

The Appcelerator Dev blog highlights a few compatibility issues using Xcode 4.3 with Titanium, and details 2 possible solutions for you.

Apps

Facetouch is a fun app that lets you add hats, wigs and other accessories to all your images shared on your favourite social media platforms.

Wenke Giezeman leads a two part skillswap project where a group of programmers and designers had to build an app from scratch using Titanium. You can follow the Conquer the App Store Report (in Dutch)

Tips

TiTouchDB is an Appcelerator Titanium module which wraps TouchDB, the lightweight, CouchDB-compatible database suitable for embedding into mobile apps.

Ti Amazon S3 is an example app that allows you to upload media files directly to an Amazon S3 bucket, instead of routing requests through a proxy server, via Amazon’s REST API. It also shows how commonJS can be used to build scalable Titanium applications.
