This Week in Titanium Mobile Development: 27 Dec 2011

This is all the Titanium Mobile development news I’ve gathered from the Twittersphere and Interwebs for the past week – Christmas Edition!

News

It has arrived – and just in time for Christmas. Titanium Mobile SDK 1.8 and Titanium Studio 1.0.7. Lots of changes and improvements including the V8 engine for Android. Check out the video on the Appcelerator Blog for the improvements to Studio.

Tips

As a change to the V8 engine, Android modules need to be updated to 1.8. Jeff English gives us the run down.

A ‘Path’ like UI in Appcelerator Titanium by astronaughts.net (w/ code example). Use the Translate function in Google Chrome to see what they have to say.

IsGoodStuff gives a short tutorial on how to write your own snippet using Titanium Appcelerator.

Lance Spellman shows off some cool Box2D stuff with Appcelerator Titanium over at this blog.

Marcel Pociot shared an iOS module to access the ALAsset framework. This means, you can list all images (videos are not supported yet) from the users camera roll.

Tim Poulsen posted some new chapters on UI topics on the Appcelerator Wiki – tables, orientation, scrolling views. Animation coming soon.

Boydlee Pollentine gave a quickie on his blog on understanding the namespace pattern for beginners. You have bought his awesome Titanium Mobile Book, haven’t you?

imknight shows how to show the hidden samples and templates in Titanium Studio 1.0.7.

Marcel Pociot shared a Facebook style sliding menu over on Github.

Also on Github, Rafael Kellermann Streit shared an animated search bar.

Release Candidate 2 for Titanium mobile SDK is officially live went live.

See what Appcelerator CEO Jeff Hayes has to say about the App marketplace and you can also download a free copy of the Appcelerator Survey to get some insight
into the market trends.

ForgedUI.com released and now you can build apps lightning fast. You can give them a try with their free trial offer.

The Appcelerator Titanium Smartphone App Development Cookbook is a new Titanium Book available. This is the first Titanium book I’ve seen and it is great. You can also search for the book on packtpub.com

Tips

@nanofied wrote a quick little function to display Commission Junction Advertisers in titanium mobile apps.

The Appcelerator Wiki has been updated with implementation of the CommonJS in Titanium. Must read.

Pieter Kubben released his NeuroMind 2 mobile web version where he admitted to enjoy developing it using Titanium.

Running Appcelerator project in Xcode without diving into native code.

Aaron Saunders tweeted about his Slideshow he put together on  PaaS + Appcelerator.

The Cocoafish JavaScript SDK has been adapted for Titanium. It lets you access the Cocoafish server backend. Aaron Saunders shared a sample project using Cocoafish and Titanium.

Aaron Saunders is also the Featured developer on Learning Titanium.

Bytespider shared downloadqueue.js – another library to add to your collection.

Apps

Rick Blalock’s Dragon Shout is the featured app on Learningtitanium.com you can download it directly from iTunes. MakeUserOf.com also featured it.

iCarta Reyes Magos is a Spanish based educational game that can be downloaded from the android app market as well as directly from iTunes.

My Puzzles Animals HD is a set of 30 fun and educational animal puzzles for kids.

Enforex Spain Pocket Guide is an application for mobile phones, geared towards ENFOREX students, which consists in a “pocket guidebook” in English.

Radio for Life is available on android and iPhone.

This Week in Titanium Mobile Development: 13 Dec 2011

This is all the Titanium Mobile development news I’ve gathered from the Twittersphere and Interwebs for the past week. Another quiet week this week as everyone is heads down getting ready for 1.8.

News

The big news is the Release Candidates of Titanium Studio 1.0.7 and Titanium Mobile SDK v1.8 (with V8) are available. Give them a try and let Appcelerator know about any problems.

What does v1.8 mean to Android development? Tony Lukasavage covers the speed differences in Forging Titanium Episode 17: Android, Meet V8. Awesome.

Appcelerator is giving seven free webinars in seven business days for their ‘Titanium Week‘. Starts January 5th!

iShare is social share Module for Appcelerator Titanium written in JavaScript.

Nyvra shared his source code modification to use Drag & Drop annotations on iOS.

Apps

Achasta is a par 72, Jack Nicklaus Signature Design golf course located in Dahlonega, Georgia. The Achasta App helps to provide a unique experience when playing the golf course – or even if you just want to learn more about the course and it’s facilities.

U Wisconsin-Milwaukee Rolls Out their Mobile App Built on Titanium.
